Justice Mark M. Boie Receives rating of “Highly Recommended” from Illinois State Bar Association’s Committee on Judicial Evaluations

ANNA—Fifth District Appellate Court candidate Justice Mark M. Boie announced that he is humbled and honored to have received a rating of Highly Recommended from the Illinois State Bar Association’s Committee on Judicial Evaluations.

“I am excited to tell you the news that after an extensive reviewing process the Illinois State Bar Association’s Committee on Judicial Evaluations has rated me ‘Highly Recommended’ for the position of Appellate Court Justice,” said Boie in a video statement on Facebook.  “I am very honored to have received this rating and am the only Republican candidate in this election to be ‘Highly Recommended.’  This is another example of why I am the most experienced and qualified candidate in this primary election.”

Justice Mark M. Boie is a candidate for election to be a justice on the 5th District Appellate Court in the primary election on March 17, 2020. The 5th District Appellate Court handles appeals from circuit courts in 37 counties in southern Illinois and sits in Mt. Vernon. Justice Mark M. Boie was appointed to the Fifth District Appellate Court in May of 2019 by the Illinois Supreme Court. Prior to this appointment, he served as the elected Resident Circuit Judge of Union County since 2000, and hears cases throughout the entire First Judicial Circuit. He was in private practice for 3 years prior to becoming a judge.

The Judicial Evaluation Committee of the Illinois State Bar Association has reviewed a written submission by Justice Mark M. Boie and has interviewed judges, and numerous attorneys in various areas of practice who know or have worked in front of him. Areas of inquiry and evaluation include litigation experience; litigation ability; other professional experience or activities; integrity; character; professional and judicial temperament; and health. He also presented himself for an interview before members of the committee.

The Judicial Evaluation Committee of the Illinois State Bar Association finds Justice Mark M. Boie to be Highly Recommended for the position of the Justice of Fifth District Appellate Court.

Candidates seeking election to the Appellate or Supreme Court are reviewed in a comprehensive evaluation process. This involves a detailed background investigation by members of the ISBA Judicial Evaluations Committee, followed by an in-person interview of the candidate. The Committee then decides whether to rate the candidate Recommended, Highly Recommended or Not Recommended for the judicial office being sought.
